Officers Awarded Meritorious Service Award

Last night at the City of Tukwila Council meeting, Officer Josh Vivet, Officer Ryan McAdory, Officer Mike Richardson and Detective Erik Kunsmann were awarded the department Meritorious Service Award for their response and outstanding work related to an incident that occurred in April.

On 4/3/25, Officer Josh Vivet, Officer Ryan McAdory, Officer Mike Richardson and Detective Erik Kunsmann responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a stolen vehicle that had collided with another vehicle. The suspect in the stolen vehicle fled on foot, and the male of the other vehicle ultimately succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision.  The suspect was believed to have run into a heavily wooded and swampy area.

During the K9 track, and with the help from Guardian One, officers located the suspect.  Due to waist-deep water and heavy thorny brush, officers were unable to reach the suspect. They tried to use a machete to cut the brush, but it was ineffective. They then used a fire department chain saw to cut through and gain access to the suspect. All of this was done without cover and involved great risk to everyone attempting to apprehend a suspect who had just committed a serious offense.

Despite the dangers presented to them by the suspect and the terrain in the dark, Officer Vivet, Officer McAdory, Officer Richardson, and Detective Kunsmann pushed forward and after approximately two hours, the suspect was taken into custody.
