Back to School
✏️Back to School! 🚍
We are excited to announce that our School Resource Officers (SRO) will be heading back to school this September for the 2024/2025 school year! Officer Schutt will be back to school with the students this fall at Showalter Middle School and is excited to get back into the swing of things.
Officer Schutt has worked in law enforcement for just under 20 years. He has held the roles of Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer (FTO) and D.A.R.E. Officer prior to becoming an SRO in 2019. After being selected and assigned as an SRO, Officer Schutt attended SRO school which is a specialized training program to prepare new SROs to fulfill their roles in a school setting effectively with the best interest of the students and staff in mind. The program further provided training and resources specific to student needs such as digital safety, mental health, substance abuse, de-escalation, working with diverse populations, children with special needs and more.
The purpose of the Tukwila Police Department SRO program is for the SRO to be a liaison and resource for both students and administrators. Students get to meet and interact with SROs in a non-enforcement environment and build a level of trust and understanding of law enforcement. Historically even years later after graduating, students who find themselves in tough situations or just in need of someone to talk to oftentimes request to speak specifically to their former SRO’s due to those meaningful relationships that they have built over the years.
We are excited to have our SROs back in the schools and are looking forward to a great school year!
