Maple Crest Fire Investigation Update
Earlier this week, law enforcement officers took an adult male into custody in Tukwila related to Department of Corrections (DOC) violations during an unrelated law enforcement operation. During the course of that investigation, officers located property the suspect was in possession of that showed signs of fire and smoke damage.
The officers notified the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and fire investigators who were able to positively identify the items as having been taken from the site of the Maple Crest fire. The suspect was booked into jail on the DOC violations.
Detectives were able to identify who the property belonged to and are working with the Tukwila Fire Department to return the property.
Overnight on August 22nd, Tukwila officers located an adult female inside the security fencing at the Maple Crest scene and two adult males inside of apartment units. All three were detained without incident. Officers also located scrap metal and property that had been staged along the back of the building by someone(s) to be taken from the site.
Both male suspects were booked into King County Jail. The female suspect was identified and released.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing. Updates will be shared as we are able to do so. Anyone with information related to the fire or with information related to the stolen property from the scene is encouraged to call our non-emergency number at (206) 241-2121 and ask to speak with an MCU detective.
