Commander Boyd Retires After 28-Years of Service
In addition to the retirement of Officer John Perry this week, we are also celebrating the career and retirement of Commander Kraig Boyd who is retiring today after a 28-year career with Tukwila PD.
Commander Boyd began his career with Tukwila PD in April of 1996. During his tenure with us, he held several assignments, including range safety officer, SWAT team member and sniper, Crime Prevention Officer, Civil Disturbance Unit (CDU) member, Field Training Officer (FTO), and was a part of our Hostage Negotiator Team (HNT).
Commander Boyd was promoted to sergeant in September of 2014. During his tenure as a sergeant, he supervised Patrol, the Tukwila Anti-Crime unit (TAC), and the Community Policing Team (CPT).
In May of 2018 Commander Boyd was promoted to the rank of Commander. He oversaw the Patrol Division, Professional Standards Division, and the Special Operations Division at different times. During his time as the Professional Standards Division Commander, Commander Boyd took the Department through the accreditation process and helped us become an accredited agency through WASPC.
Commander Boyd’s long-time involvement with the East African Area Studies Group earned him Employee Of The Quarter and Certificate of Commendation awards. He developed a community outreach program that focused on establishing partnership, gaining trust and ensuring the immigrant and refugee communities have access to the police when needed. In 2013, Commander Boyd worked with agencies from Minneapolis, Fargo, Seattle, JTTF and local LE agencies to bring the 9th annual East African Area Studies Group Conference to Tukwila.
As a SWAT member, Commander Boyd received a Certificate of Commendation in 2005 for responding to a hostile suspect who engaged officers in a gun battle.
Thank you Commander Boyd for your 28-years of service to the Tukwila community and your Tukwila PD peers. You will be missed and your contributions are immeasurable.
