Catalytic Converter Thieves Arrested
Another big win yesterday in addition to the narcotic bust. Officers responded to a report of a catalytic converter theft in the Southcenter District. A witness reported hearing a “sawing” sound coming from a vehicle in a parking garage. Security officers also reported that they had observed a sedan doing laps in the area with an occupant who appeared to have been checking underneath vehicles.
Officers and Community Police Team (CPT) detectives who were already in the area for an unrelated incident immediately responded and located the suspect vehicle on a different level of the garage. An adult male from Kent with multiple prior felony convictions and an extensive collection of warrants from several cities and counties was detained. His partner in crime who is also an adult male from Kent was detained. A reciprocating saw was observed in plain sight in the suspect vehicle along with common burglary/car prowling tools.
Through investigation, officers established probable cause to arrest both suspects for attempting to remove a catalytic converter from a vehicle in the parking garage.
Both suspects were booked into jail on charges of Malicious Mischief 3rd, Making/Having Burglary Tools and for the warrants for the warrant collector. Their vehicle was impounded for a search pending a search warrant.
