Special Emphasis Unit (SEU) & K9 Unit Arrest Vehicle Theft Suspect

🚨Special Emphasis Unit (SEU) and K9 Unit Arrest Vehicle Theft Suspect🚨

Last night (7/16), detectives with the SEU located an occupied stolen vehicle in the 1400 blk Military Rd S. Upon approaching the vehicle to contact the driver, he fled on foot thus leading members the Tukwila PD Track Team on a fast-paced felony cardio workout to include the hurdle event by jumping fences in an attempt to escape.

Additional officers arrived along with K9 Raider. K-9 Raider began to track the suspect once he picked up the scent and was led to a yard full of chickens. K9 Raider paid the chickens no mind and continued to diligently track the suspect over another fence and into an auto storage yard that had multiple individuals in it. K9 Raider again ignored the distractions completely and worked his way to another fence.

As K-9 Raider worked his way through the storage yard, the suspect got up from his hiding spot and attempted to flee on foot once again. K9 announcements were made to the suspect who at this time chose to comply after coming eye to eye with K9 Raider, SEU detectives and officers. He was taken into custody without incident.

This is K9 Raider’s 11th capture since coming onboard with us at the end of 2023 and was a great example of SEU detectives, patrol officers and our K9 unit working together to take a suspect into custody without incident.

The outcome of this is also common of many K9 tracks. Very few K9 tracks end in a K9 application of force. Rather, most end with a confrontation with the suspect at which time the suspect complies when faced with the decision to run, fight or comply with the lawful commands of officers.

  1. Glad you made this post of what was happening! I was driving by when Raider was beside Military Road and what looked like the entire set of TPD patrol cars were there! My guess is you already had your suspect and custody.

Raider and his K9’Officer takes a big risk of being the Point Man in these searches.
Glad to see the situation work out safely for everyone.
