Officers Deescalate Two Simultaneous Incidents
This morning, officers responded to multiple simultaneous incidents that involved reports of weapons and prolonged encounters to bring to a safe conclusion.
At around 9AM, officers responded to a report of an individual walking in and out of traffic with a knife. Responding officers located the individual in the vicinity of Wig Blvd and Southcenter Pkwy. He was highly agitated and due to his agitated state, threw a rock at a responding officers patrol car.
Officers were able to create distance, verbally deescalate the situation and calm the individual down. It was determined that he did not have knife but was just highly agitated. While this was going on, a passerby reported an individual walking southbound on Tukwila International Blvd near 112th holding a pistol in a clear bag. As officers approached the area, the suspect pointed it at one of the officers and made a firing motion with his hand before continuing to walk southbound.
Officers immediately shut down traffic in both directions and followed the suspect giving him repeat verbal commands to stop and raise his hands. The suspect continued to refuse those commands and ignored all attempts to stop him and deescalate the situation. Due to the suspect approaching a busy intersection and residential areas, an officer deployed a 40mm rubber projectile to stop the suspect. The deployment was successful, and the suspect was immediately taken into custody without incident. He was checked out and cleared by the fire department for claims of pre-existing injuries before being booked into jail for two counts of Placing a Person in Fear or Apprehension by Threat and Obstructing a Public Servant.

Yikes! Intense start to both of these incidents that concluded well by using the training and tools to either de-escalate or bring the suspect into custody without lethal force. Excellent law enforcement by any standard!!!
