The weather has been amazing and the splash of water felt great for our latest rookie Officer Mosley who had his OC (pepper spray) exposure training recently. Officer Mosley graduated from the Basic Police Academy this month and completed his pre-Field Training phases. This Saturday night, he embarks on the next stage of the training process in which for 12-weeks, he will be partnered with a veteran Field Training Officer (FTO).
Officer Mosley will be doing the driving, operating the computer, dash/body cams, and handling all of the calls while his FTO’s observe, guide, mentor and assist him through the process. This is typically the most stressful part of all the training processes. New officers must learn the streets and where they’re going, operate 10+ software systems, apply the law theyve learned in the academy in real-world situations that are never the same and are constantly being observed and graded by their FTO’s and peers alike. It is a very stressful process but one that is stressful by design to ensure that the officer is prepared to operate under pressure and handle high levels of stress which is not uncommon in our day to day duties.
